The symposium will be held at the University of Otago in Dunedin. The University of Otago is New Zealand’s first university and a vibrant international centre of learning. It was established in 1869 by Scottish settlers with a strong conviction in the transforming power of education. Today the University has about 20,000 students, from all over New Zealand and from nearly 100 countries around the world. Otago has many distinctive features. It is New Zealand’s most research-intensive university, and the highest ranked for the quality of its research.

Castle Theatre Complex

Conference sessions will be held in the Castle Theatre Complex which is located in the central region of the Dunedin campus, between the Arts building and the Information Services Building. Download the campus map.

Dunedin

Dunedin (population 120,000), attractively situated at the head of Otago Harbour, is the main centre of the Otago region and has a strong Scottish background. The city, with a strong educational, artistic and cultural tradition, is home to the University of Otago – with its vibrant student life – and has excellent museums, art galleries, theatres, concert halls and cinemas, all centrally located. Especially notable cultural attractions include the gracious stately home – Olveston, and the awe-inspiring Larnach Castle. There are numerous parks, a fine Botanic Garden and the green town belt within walking distance of the city centre. Also easily accessible are many sporting grounds, golf courses and a well-equipped indoor pool. There are numerous places to eat out in Dunedin, from modestly-priced family restaurants to more expensive dining places. The nearby Otago Peninsula is renowned for its scenic attractions, impressive coast and abundant wildlife including seals, penguins and albatrosses. Getting to and from Dunedin Airport: Dunedin International Airport Ltd is half an hour’s drive south of the city at Momona on the Taieri Plain.
• Airport shuttle – seats between 8 and 10 passengers. Door to door service. Advanced booking will ensure meet-and-greet service for conference delegates ($12-$20 depending on the number of passengers). Contact Dunedin Taxis on 0800 505 010 www.dunedintaxis.co.nz
• Taxis cost approximately $80 to the city centre.
• Hire cars are available for collection at the southern end of the airport terminal building (Budget, Europcar, Ezi-Rent, Hertz, Nationwide, Thrifty and Driven). Hours of operation coincide with flight arrival and departures.

Dunedin airport flights include:
• Daily domestic flights to and from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch connecting to provincial centres.
• Seasonal international flights to/from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne (check at the time of booking). Travel distances – flight times: Sydney – 3 hours Brisbane – 3.25 hours Christchurch – 40 minutes Wellington – 1.25 hours Auckland – 2.5 hours Queenstown – 30 minutes
